International Market Access

For open markets and free trade

What it is about

In Switzerland, companies of all sizes are successfully asserting themselves on the global market. To ensure that they can continue to be successful in the future, they need good framework conditions in Switzerland and the best possible access to foreign markets. Open markets and a well-developed free trade network are therefore of key importance for Swiss companies.

Position of the economy

Diversification in geopolitically and economically uncertain times

  • The bilateral approach with the European Union as Switzerland's most important trading partner must be secured and further developed (more information here: European policy)
  • A globally oriented and diversified foreign trade is key. To this end, relations with the USA, Mercosur and Asian countries must be expanded rapidly and in depth.

Open access to world markets

  • As an exporting nation, Switzerland needs excellent access to foreign markets. In view of faltering multilateralism and increasing protectionism, trade agreements with individual countries or economic areas are currently the best instrument for Switzerland to ensure that market access is as barrier-free as possible.

For a business-oriented foreign policy

  • Swiss economic interests must be incorporated more strongly into our foreign policy and represented more resolutely in international organizations.
